The premier course for Metalworking Fluid Managers is STLE's METALWORKING FLUID MANAGER'S CERTIFICATE COURSE.  The 2013 registration of this course is now open.  Scheduled for February 19-21, the new venue will be the Hampton Inn, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  This course has now been provided for a few years by the STLE group that includes Dr. Fred Passman and Dr.

NIOSH Evaluates Metalworking Fluids Exposures

In a new health hazard evaluation released Sept. 20, NIOSH evaluated employee exposures to metalworking fluids (MWFs) at an aircraft engine manufacturing facility in Ohio. During two site visits to the facility, NIOSH took air samples for MWFs, reviewed the MWF maintenance and training programs, and assessed the work practices and engineering controls in place. NIOSH personnel found that airborne MWF concentrations were below applicable occupational exposure limits but found that some employees did not use proper engineering controls, such as splash guards, when working with MWFs.

CIMTECH 320 Product Line Claims Advantages in Machine Performance and Product Quality

Cimcool offers its Cimtech 320 product line, a series of metalworking fluids for machining and grinding applications without the use of mineral oil. The clean, low-foaming, synthetic metalworking fluids are appropriate for a variety of applications, the company says. The line includes three products: Cimtech 320, 320z and 320-HPF with FACT.

Kline & Company has published a study of the global metalworking fluids industry, self-described as "A comprehensive assessment of the global markets for finished lubricants and the suppliers that participate in them."  The study was to be published July 2012, and may have been.  Kline is a provider of market research and consulting service provider.

Revision of E1302 - 00(2007) Standard Guide for Acute Animal Toxicity Testing of Water-Miscible Metalworking Fluids

ASTM has a new work item (ASTM WK 38962) to revise Standard E1302 - Standard Guide for Acute Animal Toxicity Testing of Water-Miscible Metalworking Fluids. The revision will add a terminology section to the Standard.
