You Can Stop Shaking Now

The "shake test" is being retired by ASTM.  D-3519 and D-3601 are balloted for removal from the ASTM Standards with no alternate methods. Is foam testing no longer important, or is it that every defoamer supplier and metalworking house has their own version of these tests? Whatever the reason, removing a standard test method with no replacement is the purest form of folly.  In particular, I refer to the blender test, which is at least repeatable and reliable, if not otherwise flawed.  Anyone who has read my work or heard me speak knows I am not fond of either of these methods however flawed they gave us a means of comparing one product to another with reasonable reproducibility between laboratories. Therefore, I ask is there a better foam test method being considered? If so, I applaud it.  If not, why cancel the current methods? We will dig deeper to see if someone in the ASTM Metalworking Fluid Work Group can enlighten us.
All Best,
