Metalworking Fluid Selection: Harry Miller Corp
HARRY MILLER CORP offers a large range of Soluble, Semi-Synthetic and Synthetic fluids. As with other large manufacturers, they have aligned their products by these formulation families first, and secondly by a generalized machining category of heavy duty and light duty. But these terms are fairly subjective. It would be more helpful if they provided a product selector with respect to material and operation and also identify unacceptable applications.
The cutting and grinding oils are categorized by viscosity, which is interesting and fairly intuitive within the category. The "coolants" are found by formulation family. Under the formulation family (Soluble, Semi-Synthetic and Synthetic) the End User gets several product names and must select each one to find out more details of its recommended application and other features. Once there, the information is sparse at best, in some cases a couple of sentences. Apparently you are expected to take notes when flipping between the products. The website is not nearly as helpful as it needs to be for the End User. This company has an excellent reputation in the business, but the provision of information leaves a lot to be desired. End Users want a one-page overview of products matched to recommended applications. Here is a summary of what we found for the coolants, but double-check with Harry Miller Corp.
