Blaser Busted by EPA for $150K
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has reached an agreement with well known Metalworking Fluid Manufacturer in Goshen for violations of federal regulations governing toxic substances. The company, which produces high-end coolants for tools, failed to notify the EPA before importing a chemical it had been using to inhibit corrosion in one of its products. Under the agreement, the company will pay a $150,000 penalty. When a company brings a chemical into the country, it must notify the EPA and certify 90 days before importation that it meets all rules and regulations of the Toxic Substances Control Act. An EPA inspection facility found that from February 2008 through July 2010, it had been importing a chemical without first notifying the EPA. The chemical was used in the production of a metalworking fluid the company sold to domestic manufacturers. Our take of this is that if you haven't been fined by a government agency identified by an acronym of 3 or more letters in your lifetime, you're either under 18 or just not trying hard enough. When asked for a comment, Marc Balser said - "You can tell the guys at Milacron that at least we didn't kill anything." (OK, he didn't really say that.)
