The Longest 20 Minutes of My Life

In browsing through my stack of TLT Magazines, I realized I had overlooked the September Edition Interview with Patrick Brutto.  The article is titled "20 Minutes with Patrick Brutto" and that where the title of this article comes from.  Was that really only 20 minutes?  It felt like an hour and a half.  Maybe that's because I had to read most of it twice.  TLT asks Mr. Brutto two fun questions about his early years and his favorite food or something like that.  The fun ends there.  In just three pages, 11-13, Mr. Brutto crams in a brutal crash course on the role of amines in metalworking fluids.  What they are selected for, what they might also do, and what they won't do.  Their functionality and similarities. Their combinations for cost and performance.  Amine "partitioning."  The impact of increased regulation in their selection.   Compatibility with aluminum.  Solubility of amines in tramp oil.  Did I mention this was just 3 pages?  Geared for the formulator, this article is very informative, and a reminder of why I never go drinking with anyone smarter than me.  Sorry, but the links to TLT have been moved so you'll have to look around for the article at the stle.org site on your own.
