Abstract: The demands placed on EU metalworking fluid companies from a regulatory standpoint are continuing to increase. This webinar will highlight some of the key issues and hopefully provide some guidance on how to work through them. A prominent issue that will be discussed is what to do about boric acid which has been widely used as a corrosion inhibitor and imparts biostability to metalworking fluid formulations. Other topics that will be covered include an update on chlorinated parrafins, a discussion about steps needed to comply with the upcoming GHS regulations, the Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) and its implications for metalworking fluids, a discussion about formaldehyde-releasing biocides and their use in the future and a reminder that the Phase 3 deadline for registration of substances used between 1 and 100 metric tons per year under REACH directive is coming up on 1st June, 2018.

Presenter Biography: Neil Canter received his PhD in Chemistry from the University of Michigan in 1983 and his BS in Chemistry from Brown University in 1978. He has been working in the lubricant industry for over 25 years. Neil previously worked for Stepan Company and Mayco. Presently, Neil runs his own consulting company called Chemical Solutions. He specializes in commercial development, marketing, product development and regulatory support for the lubricant industry.

Neil is a member of American Chemical Society, Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) and the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE). Neil is a Certified Metalworking Fluid Specialist (CMFS) and the past chair of STLE's Metalworking Fluid Steering Committee and STLE's Metalworking Fluid Education and Training Subcommittee. He is still working on both committees. Neil is also a member of the STLE Education Committee and a past chair. He is a Contributing Editor responsible for writing the monthly Tech Beat column in STLE's TLT magazine.
