It's time to have your sump inspected...
A sump clean-out by an untrained hand can be painful, and if it doesn't get done right, you'll being doing it again too soon. Lucky for you, the doctor is in. The SUMPDOC that is. Eriez's new portable recycling system has the look of a serious machine - just like this nurse. But the SUMPDOC is a lot more likely to get the job done with less pain. We have seen portable tank-side recycling efforts over the years, but this one is at least the largest. A hand driven pallet truck is needed to move the beast i
The Growth of Biobased MWF's
The August edition of TLT has arrived with the cover story: The Growth of Biobased MWF's. If you are considering switching to a biobased MWF, this article is a nice introduction to your basic concerns. As everyone, knows, these products have come a long way over the last 10 years. According to the article, new formulations, genetically modified crops and additives are resulting in biobased products that can compete with, and in some cases outperform, c
Walter Valenite formulation for high-pressure system also improves “overall system cleanliness”
A new cutting fluid from Walter USA LLC reportedly will improve the surface finish of machined parts and improve the overall cleanliness of the machining process. Most important, the Walter Valenite VPLFC coolant delivers the advanced foam-controlling properties needed for the high-pressure fluid systems that are common for high-speed machining.

LuminUltra’s QGO-M Test Protocol for Total Biomass Measurement
"The Standard for Total Biomass Measurement In Metalworking Fluids" is provided by the LumiCast publication of LuminUltra. Biological contamination is the lifeline on the palm of every metalworking fluid system. There is a well-established need for faster and more accurate detection of the MWF condition.
6C MWF Management Scheme, from Master Chemical of India
Meenakshi Krishna of Master Chemical, India has provided METALWORKING FLUID MAGAZINE with a short, nicely packaged approach to metalworking fluid management that details some basic rules of periodic fluid management. The article compiles well known principles in a manner that is easy to remember, and thankfully, honest. They strained a bit to use six C's, but we can overlook that. Here's my favorite truism:
Quarterly MWF Newsletter from STLE
STLE has a "Special Interest Group" (SIG)/technical committee newsletter that will be released every quarter, on the first Monday of the following months: January, April, July, and October. The link above will connect you to the inaugural edition, where you can browse through the articles at your leisure. Five different authors contribute to topics directly related to metalworking fluids.
Articles include:
Coolants formulated for machining tough-to-cut fracking pump parts
Extraction Funnel for Metalworking Fluids Now Available
NIOSH has announced the development and commercial availability of a newly designed funnel for the analysis of samples of metalworking fluids, pursuant to NIOSH Method 5524. This 37-mm ID funnel permits extraction of metalworking fluid aerosols from solid particulates. However, it also may be useful for other applications requiring an extraction funnel of this dimension. For more information about the funnel click on the article link or the photo.
